What's open source — and what isn't

We open-sourced the part that lives on your infrastructure. The control plane and dashboard remain proprietary — that's where our business is, and it's also code that never touches your server.

cloudnan-agent

Open Source

The binary that runs on every server you connect. Streams metrics, executes commands, manages services. mTLS-authenticated. Apache 2.0 (or whatever license cloudnan-agent ships under).

Proprietary

The control plane. Hosted by us, never deployed to your servers. Nothing here runs on customer infrastructure, so the code being closed has no audit-surface implication for you.

The dashboard you're looking at right now. It runs entirely in your browser and never touches your server, so there's nothing security-sensitive to audit here.

Why we open sourced the agent

Auditable by design

Security teams can read every cryptographic operation, every command-execution path, every line that handles credentials. Pair this with the mTLS-only agent connection and there is no part of the trust model you have to take on faith.

No hidden telemetry

Every byte the agent sends to the control plane is in the source. The proto files (proto/agent/agent.proto) are the contract — what you see is what we collect, no analytics SDK, no third-party trackers, no surprise endpoints.

Contribute back

Patches, distro support, bug reports, security disclosures — all welcome via GitHub Issues and Pull Requests. Significant features may earn a credit-line in the agent's CHANGELOG, and we triage security reports within 48 hours.
